The meetings for the Commission on E-Business, Information Technologies and Telecoms (EBITT) of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) concluded in Brussels last Sunday, which were chaired by Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh. Participating in the meetings that convened in the form of a roundtable were officials in the European Union and members of the European parliament.
 
Abu-Ghazaleh explained that the meetings are the starting point for a common dialogue between the ICC –as a representative of the global business community- and the European Union for its role in formulating international economic policies.
 
A dinner was held in honor of the participants from the ICC and the European Union, which was attended by the Jordanian ambassador Mrs. Alya Bouran and the Secretary of the ICC Mrs. Maria Kattawi, in addition to leaders of the global private sector, international organizations and EU officials. The commissioner of the European Market Arky Lichnen delivered a speech presenting the market’s policies. Additionally, the EBITT commission’s chairman presented the achievements and plans of the business sector in the field of IT and telecommunications.
 
The commission adopted the recommendations of Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh which were: the creation of a working guide for e-commerce transactions and forming a taskforce for this purpose, creating a taskforce for internet administration and policies, creation of an action plan for the cooperation of the commission with the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the European market in the fields of legislations and policies concerning the commission’s activities, creating a taskforce for the follow-up of services negotiations relating to the commission’s specialization and to study the framework of the current global trade negotiation for the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) and the adoption of a guide for policies to preserve electronic information.
