The meetings of the board of directors for the Licensing Executives Society International (LESI) concluded in Paris yesterday.
Participating in the meetings were presidents of national societies and leaders of the international organization. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh represented the Licensing Executives Society – Arab Countries (LES-AC) in his capacity as chairman of LES-AC, which represents the Arab region in this field.
The board discussed the message, goals and activities of LESI at the global level in addition to future plans and educational programs.
Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh submitted a number of suggestions to the board that were discussed and specialized committees were assigned to study plans for implementing them.
The suggestions are summarized in changing the name of the society to reflect its goals and purposes which are primarily concerned in utilizing intellectual property (IP) rights commercially in a manner beneficial to society at large, in addition to technology transfer, developing national technology, and other matters relating to benefiting from IP rights and granting the opportunity of membership for concerned companies, universities and organizations. The current system of the society allows membership for natural persons only.
The aim is to accelerate the implementation of the professional qualifying system such that the necessary cadres can graduate with degrees of technology and IP administration experts. This program was prepared by the Licensing Executives Society (USA & Canada), and will be applied in the Arab region by LES-AC.
Also, the board discussed the convention of the annual global conference of LESI in Cairo during May 2004. This is the first conference of its kind for the organization that will be held in the Arab region. It will take place under the official patronage of the Egyptian government and the organizing of the Licensing Executives Society.
Approximately one thousand persons including LESI members, licensing and technology transfer experts and members of international bodies will participate in it, from Arab countries and around the world.
