Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, the famous economic expert, expects that the world will experience technical transformations that will move us towards a new world free from borders and full of unlimited options. He added that these technical transformations will help us to transform from the democratic national regimes to a democratic international new world.
Mr. Abu-Ghazaleh said, at an intellectual meeting held in Cairo during the 32nd Session of Cairo International Book Fair - 2000 that he predicts that throughout the next twenty years the costs of computer and telecommunications will decrease. He also expected that there will be a unified information network which represents endless information resources.
He mentioned that governmental services and others concerning trade, health, education and entertainment, will all be conducted via the Internet. In this regard, Mr. Abu-Ghazaleh noted that "the future is in our hands and we must prepare ourselves as quickly as possible to use one tool for all means of communication. Soon, each one of us will possess an identity card that can be used anywhere in the world for all purposes." He also explained that digital intellectual property will represent the core of international trade, pointing out that e-commerce will in twenty years become the predominant global trade market.
Mr. Abu-Ghazaleh declared that by the end of this century the information revolution will lead us to a knowledge revolution, which in turn will direct us to another revolution which is the revolution of wisdom. He also said that our current tools are; the Internet, smart machines and virtual reality, while in the next millennium we will not only have smart information but also we will possess smart machines with which we can communicate.
