The International Trademark Association (INTA) recently convened its 116th annual meeting in Seattle, USA.
The meeting was attended by more than 3000 experts and lawyers of trademarks and patents.

The meetings continued for five days, throughout which workshops were held, in addition to seminars and exhibits specific to the field of intellectual property (IP) protection. Also, the various committees of the association met to review the action plans for the upcoming period, and taskforces met who are to specialize in the area of improving communication efforts and examining the various efforts to develop planning of laws and IP codes that serve the discipline better.

Attending the conference were well-known industrial officials and representatives of the largest law firms in the world, to contribute to the discussions of the various committees related to IP. Also, producers of computer software programs, the pharmaceutical and food industries from various nations were also in attendance.

Participating in the event’s various seminars and meetings was Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, Chairman of the Arab Society for the Protection of Intellectual Property, in addition to a number of the society’s members. The society’s representatives pointed out to the role of effective IP protection in industrial and economic growth throughout the Arab world.

It is worth noting that the association’s name changed last July from the American Trademark Association to the International Trademark Association (INTA). This change is indicative of the new global dimension of the association and reflects its interest in the laws and affairs of trademarks worldwide.
