The international seminar being convened within the framework of the Gulf Cooperation Council on “Industrial Property and Intellectual Property Protection” released its recommendations on Monday. The International Center for Information participated in organizing the seminar –which is considered the largest specialized in this field- in collaboration and coordination with Clifford Chance. Numerous international and Arab experts participated in the seminar, in addition to experts from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). There were also large global companies who joined the event such as Glaxo, Mercedes Benz and the famous accounting firm Price Waterhouse.

The seminar dealt with various topics, such as violation of copyrights and publishing, and privileges and effects of implementing new laws of various countries in the region.

Participating in the administration of this event was the international expert Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, Chairman of the Arab Society for the Protection of Industrial and Intellectual Property and Chairman of Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP), which is considered the pioneering Arab company in this field.

Mr. Abu-Ghazaleh had presented two papers in relation to laws and special legislations on organizing industrial and intellectual property protection for various Arab countries including the UAE, Yemen and the Sultanate of Oman. He also had participated in the Riyadh (i.e. Saudi Arabia’s capital) seminar on the same topic.

As for the status of the accounting profession in the Arab world, Abu-Ghazaleh stressed the significance of qualifying large numbers of accountants in order to fill the Arab accounting market, pointing out to the fact that Arab accountants are less than five thousand, whereas the Arab region requires –according to the averages in advanced nations- half a million accountants at a minimum.
