NABLUS – Dr. Munzer Salah, President of the national Najah University, signed an agreement between the university and the Arab Society of Certified Accountants (ASCA), during his visit to Amman recently.

According to this agreement, an ASCA Palestine branch will be opened at the university, in order to hold courses to qualify certified accountants such that they obtain a certificate that enables them to practice the profession in various nations worldwide.

Dr. Mahmoub Abu Alrub, the Dean of Economy and Administrative Sciences at the university, explained that the ASCA branch to be opened at Najah soon will afford the opportunity for more than seven thousand accountants in the West Bank and Gaza to hold the title of a certified accountant. This takes place after holding such a title was monopolized by a small number of accountants who would obtain a license to practice the profession by the civil administration in Beit Eil.

ASCA enjoys membership in the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), and is opening ASCA branches in all Arab countries.

Dr. Mahmoub Abu Alrub said that the opening of the Palestinian branch of ASCA, will induce fundamental changes in the accounting profession throughout the occupied territories. He stated that accountants will become qualified per international standards for the profession, and participants in the ASCA courses will be supplied with a specialized periodical that contains studies, research and articles related to the accounting and auditing professions and the aspects of their development worldwide.

It is noted that ASCA is opening two branches with one in each of the USA and Britain, through which it will follow up on the new developments in the accounting and auditing sciences, and transfers these developments to all its branches, which will now include the Palestinian branch to be opened.

Dr. Jihad Hamdan, Head of the Accounting Department at Najah University, explained that through this agreement, ASCA will provide the university with all curricula required for the certified accountant courses. He clarified that the participant in these courses does not obtain the ASCA certificate until after successfully passing its exams.
