DUBAI------- October 9, 2011------The Arab Society of Certified Accountants (ASCA) held its annual meeting at the Business Village, the Conference Centre affiliated to the Government of Dubai.

HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, ASCA's Chairman, welcomed the attendees and stated "ASCA was established 27 years ago and today it has become at the forefront and leadership of the accounting and auditing profession thanks to your efforts and support to the profession. On this occasion the Society has prepared a book in recognition of its 27 years of action and leadership of this profession."ASCA Holds Its Annual Meeting in Dubai

The 2010 Annual Report was discussed and its contents were approved.

The meeting witnessed the launch of the qualification and certificate of Arab Certificate of Management Accountant (ACMA) by the Society. This program aims to meet accountants' needs and capacities in the business and government sector. Financial and managerial experts will benefit from such program.

The members also tackled the issue of launching the Certificate of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) in Islamic Finance by the Society, which is the first world certificate of its kind in Islamic finance. The meeting stressed that the promotion of this certificate will have a positive effect and will contribute to the success of the financial sector.

The Society's members reviewed the results of the reexaminations of the certificate of the Arab Certified Professional Accountant (ACPA) of the 2010 batch. They also discussed the launch of a certificate which the Society is currently working on which consists of four major specialized papers instead of the current eight-paper program. The four papers are in business management, accounting, auditing and laws and taxes.

Members welcomed the Society's efforts to change the examinations system into digital electronic examinations.

During the meeting, Chairman of ASCA presented the Mohammed Adil Alsaadi Award to the top student who attained the highest score Mr. Ali Ahmed from the Sana'a Center (Yemen). The award is a five thousand dollar grant and a certificate of excellence as an initiative by HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh to encourage students and in honor of the late Mohammed Adil Alsaadi, one of ASCA's founders.

The meeting also discussed a number of topics related to the promotion of the Society’s activities and the action plan of the International Federation of Accountants.

The issues of membership, application for membership, professional publications and other management and financial issues were discussed and appropriate decisions were taken.

It was decided that the next meeting will be held in Beirut.

Subsequently, the General Assembly of the Society held a meeting during which the Annual Report of the year ending on December 31, 2010 was approved and the estimated budget for the period from January 1, to December 31, 2011 was discussed.

Members of the Assembly thanked the management of the Society for the implementation of the decisions and programs and the management's performance leading to the progress of the Society’s work and activities.
