New York - The International Consortium
for Sustainable Urbanization (CSU) has recently published a seminal book
entitled “Chronicles of the Consortium for Sustainable Urbanization”.
The
publication recounts its comprehensive history, its founding and its growth
into a global network of professionals, policy makers and practitioners engaged
in promoting sustainable urban development around the world. CSU has attracted
the participation of renowned architects, urban planners, designers,
policymakers, regional and local government leaders as well as senior officials
from the United Nations. It is accredited by the United Nations and it works
closely with it to promote the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable
Development Goal 11 on sustainable and resilient urbanization and the” New
Urban Agenda” of the U.N. Habitat 2 Conference.
The leadership of CSU has dedicated this
important historical publication to “His Excellency Dr. Talal Abu Ghazaleh who
co-founded, guided, supported and protected the Consortium for Sustainable
Urbanization since its foundation”. The book notes that Dr. Abu Ghazaleh “ has
been involved in our activities and believed in our cause. It has been a great
honor to have his guidance as the Chair of our Advisory Board, to hear his
views and to see him at our conferences, Galas, Advisory Board meetings and our
discussions. We are fortunate to have him as our leader, supporter and
friend."
The publication acknowledges H.E. Dr. Abu
Ghazaleh as a “visionary” who has provided invaluable advice, guidance and
support to the CSU since its inception. It goes on to add “If we can claim
success on our fifteenth anniversary it is due to his support and that of
the CSU community members who believe in our cause.
In his foreword to the book, Stephen
Schlesinger, the well-known historian and author of “Act of Creation” on the
founding of the United Nations, calls the CSU “a singular non-profit
organization” which champions the cause of improving the living conditions of
people in cities. He adds, “CSU’s platform has enabled experts and scholars to
discuss and formulate new ways to reshape, remap and restructure urban spaces….
CSU has played a powerful role in helping to remedy and cure the ills of our
global cities and its record of accomplishments suggests that it will continue
to do so well into the future.”
