AMMAN – In light of the escalating global instability and the
rising concerns over the possibility of heading toward a Third World War, the
prominent Arab economist and businessman HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, founder and
chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global Digital (TAG.GD), launches his new book
entitled: ‘From the United Nations to the United People’. The book explicitly
calls for adopting comprehensive reform and overhaul of the United
Nations organization. He believes that the UN is no longer capable of
fulfilling the role it was established to perform eight decades ago.
This new book, which includes 15 articles, reflects Dr.
Abu-Ghazaleh’s extensive experience, at a time of profound disturbance in the
global order. He asserts that the United Nations is seen as unable to maintain
international peace and security, and it can no longer protect human rights
independently away from major powers’ interests, or ensuring justice in
relations among nations and peoples.
Moreover, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh, an influential international
leader and one of the most prominent figures who had held senior roles in
the United Nations, states that reforming the UN is no longer a theoretical
luxury; rather, it has become an urgent necessity, especially amid the
widespread devastation caused by wars across the globe.
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh also outlines a comprehensive vision based on the
urgent need to redefine the very concept of the United Nations, proposing a
transformation towards a United People. Such an entity, he says, should
represent the concerns and interests of individuals around the globe, rather
than serving the interests of the most powerful countries. He further calls for
leveraging the technological revolution to revive the UN, introducing new
mechanisms that enable broader public participation in global decision-making.
Throughout the book, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh examines the ever-growing
challenges that the current structure of the UN has failed to resolve or
adequately respond to, from regional to international conflicts, environmental
and health crises, as well as profound technological changes. He warns that the
existing world order is at risk of collapse if fundamental reforms are not undertaken.
In this book, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh praises the UN’s significant
achievements and noble objectives over the past eighty years; accomplishments
that have greatly benefited humanity worldwide, but at the same time, the world
has changed, and the UN in its current structure is no longer capable of
keeping pace with today’s challenges. In this publication, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh
presents a strategic framework and a global call to action directed to
policymakers, intellectuals, and global leaders, affirming that the time of
change has come.
